Untitled design (1).png

I'm going to try to round up my fave Keto products every week and share them here! If you try them, leave me a comment below and let me know what you think!

1. KETO COFFEE

Ok confession time - I would not have survived my first week without this. It tastes delicious, is SO easy to make and it helps jumpstart you into ketosis and get that fat burning started! When I started my mornings with a Keto Coffee, I felt on track and ready to stick to my diet. If you're serious about your diet, I recommend buying a pack of 4 - you'll save money and not run out at the end of the month. I chose to have one every morning, but you could also alternate with your regular coffee and have one every other day! Click here for more info!

2. NUTIVA COCONUT FLOUR

With high protein and finer but low carbs, this flour will become your best friend in the kitchen. This week, most of my dinners were cooked with coconut flour! I was able to bread my chicken breast and even make cheese biscuits without the added carbs from regular flour. I totally recommend making coconut flour a staple in your kitchen during your Keto Diet. I used the Nutiva one because of the low carbs, but I'm sure there are other awesome ones out there too! Let me know below if you have a fave.

3. All Yum Onion Chips

These Sea Salt Onion Chips were a saviour this week when I wanted nothing more than to sit on my couch and devour a bag of popcorn. They are delicious, gluten free, low in carbs and a perfect treat to curb your cravings for starchy foods! My fave was the Ranch flavour. Click here to visit their site!

With BBQ season finally here, I've found the MUST have products to keep children entertained: the Gazillion Bubbles Collection! Their bubble machines and wands will keep children of all ages busy and playing outside, instead of in front of the TV. Make a Gazillion memories this summer with Gazillion Bubbles! Their top secret bubble solution makes the brightest and most colourful bubbles that are eco-friendly, safe, non-toxic and won't stain clothing or furniture!

The Gazillion Bubbles Tornado is a must have for any backyard or patio. You turn on this machine and there are literally hundreds of bubbles within seconds! It's light weight and affordable so I'm even going to bring mine to the park this summer! Be prepared to be the favourite parent in the neighbourhood with this machine!

Their bubble wands are just as fun! Zane had a blast chasing the bubbles and this is definitely something I'm going to keep in our stroller all summer. Gazillion Bubbles also has Crazy Wands (scroll down for a few pics) which are for kids a bit older than Zane but I think they would also make such awesome loot bag ideas if you're planning a birthday party this summer!

Keto Food Journal - Week 1

Untitled design.png

Finding delicious meals has not been as difficult as I thought and I am SO THANKFUL. I was sure that after day 1, I would be crying and regretting announcing online that I was committing to a KETO diet - but I'm still so happy with my decision! I thought I'd share what some of my meals this week looked like!

Breakfast:
Breakfast, I find, has been the most simple to plan but the hardest to execute because I leave so early for work. Having a plan the night before definitely makes it easier.

I start every morning with a KETO Coffee. Click here for the one I use. Consider investing in a 4-pack - you'll save money and won't ever be missing it! If you're like me and add cream to your coffee, I recommend the KETO Creamer as well! It's relish and will help jumpstart your Keto Diet efforts.

- 2 Egg Omelette: ham, red pepper, cheddar cheese, spinach and half an avocado on the side
- 2 Eggs, 4 pieces of Bacon and a slice of Tomato
- Yogurt & Chia Seeds:
1/2 cup of yogurt with 1 tbs of chia seeds (let soak overnight in the fridge). In the morning, add a few berries to your container and you're good to go! ** TIP: if you eat breakfast at work, add frozen berries to your container and they will have thawed by the time you go to eat them - they will also help keep your yogurt cold.

Lunch:
Lunch has been an easy-ish meal. The hardest part has been getting enough fat into each serving. I never realized how hard it was to reach that 70-25-5 ratio for fat-protein-carb!

To help with the KETO FLU this week, I've been taking KETO Energy Packs - They help with the fatigue and mood swings that can accompany the change in diet for the first few weeks of your Keto journey. Click here to see the ones I use.

- Pepper Sandwich: 1 bell pepper cut in half (used to replace bread), 1 tbs mayo, 2 slices of turkey, lettuce, tomato, sliced havarti cheese.
Salads: (keep in mind that because this is a LOW CARB diet, you can't pack it full with as many carb filled veggies as you normally would) - 1/4 cup green beans, 5 cherry tomatoes, 1 cup spinach, 1/8 cup of marble cheese, 1/8 cup of ham or turkey, 3-4 tbs of dressing (I chose a President's Choice Greek Vinaigrette with 6g of fat and only 1g of carbs)
Leftovers from the night before!!!

Dinner:
This meal's biggest challenge is not going over my carb consumption after my other meals are over! I love though that I can use as many fanny sauces as I want (mayo, spicy mayo, mustard, salad dressing etc. - just check the carb content!)

Organic All Beef Sausages with broiled broccoli
- Breaded Cod with Garlic-Parmesan Mashed Cauliflower **
I used coconut flour for the breading on the cod!
- Broiled chicken cordon bleu with asparagus (stuffed with bacon and cheese)
- Chicken thighs with a dijon mustard cream sauce and brussel sprouts
- Taco bowl:
ground beef, tomato, cheddar cheese, lettuce, avocado, sour cream and salsa.

WEIGH IN RESULTS: -6.8lbs!
I am thrilled with my results. Almost 7 pounds down in 7 days! Stay tuned for next week for another update!

Perch Hanging High Chair Review!

I got my hands on the highly raved about Perch Hanging High Chair from Guzzie and Guss and am so excited that I did. I've seen hanging high chairs EVERYWHERE and Guzzie and Guss is a brand that I've followed for a while, so the Perch chair was high up on my list of must try baby items. You can also scroll to the bottom of the post to watch a quick unboxing of the chair and my first impressions. Here's what we thought:

For starters, I LOVE that the Perch Hanging High Chair easily folds up and comes in a travel bag. It makes it super convenient to bring to restaurants, out for dinner when you're going somewhere where there are no highchairs and even when brining it to the mall and park.

The chair is SUPER adaptable so it will fit most tables (make sure to read the instructions on proper installation to ensure that the table is sturdy enough and safe to hang it on). I tried hanging it on my mom's dining room table, a picnic bench and my kitchen counter and it was easily installed on each. I am obsessed with this chair. I love that when I'm in the kitsch now, my son can sit at the counter colouring or snacking and be part of the action and conversation. I often feel like when he's in his highchair, it's bulky and in the way.

IMG-1552-Facetune-26-05-2018-20-34-43.jpg

It has a 5 point harness so it can be used on babies 4months +. I would recommend it for babies that are able to sit upright on their own. It doesn't recline so your baby definitely needs to be able to support their head. The cover comes off so easily to wash (a definite plus) and it's super padded so your baby will be comfortable and happy while in it! It comes in SO many colours too which I love. Click here to see them all.

We also tested out the Perch Silicone Placemat which is a MUST HAVE accessory in my opinion. It's a silicone placemat that specially fitted to go under the support rails of the Perch chair so that your baby can't pick it up and throw it around, but it's also safety tested to use with the chair. You wouldn't want to use a regular placemat because then the Perch chair wouldn't be safe on your counter. The placemats are dishwasher safe, have raised edges to contain messes and easily fold up! We LOVE our Guzzie and Guss Perch Chair and recommend it to anyone looking for a portable chair or a hanging high chair that will nicely fit in with any decor :)

Ripley's Aquarium - Fun for the Whole Family

If you're in the Toronto area, Ripley's Aquarium is a MUST SEE attraction. I wasn't sure what to expect and went in just hoping that I could keep Zane entertained for a few hours. It turned out, we could have spent the entire day there!

IMG-0724-Facetune-04-05-2018-14-48-17.jpg

From the second you walk in the Ripley's Aquarium, you're surrounded by gorgeous colours, illuminated aquariums that span from floor to ceiling and EVERY type of underwater fish you can imagine. It was such a nice experience to see Zane fascinated by the lights and swimming fish. I went with a friend of mine who has 2 older children and they were just as enthralled by the breath taking views.

IMG-0691.JPG

The aquarium is divided into exhibits such as the Canadian Waters, Rainbow Reef, Ray Bay and Curious Creatures (to name a few) but besides the exhibits, they have so many other things to offer! They have interactive stops along the way for older kids, they have caves that kids can crawl though, educational games and puzzles, and there was even a teaching session happening where someone from the Ripley's Aquarium was giving a lesson about fish!

IMG-0716.JPG

We had 2 favourite parts of the aquarium. The first was the Dangerous Lagoon - which is a long and beautiful aquarium tunnel that allows you to walk under swimming fish, sharks, sea turtles and so much more! There is moving belt so you can relax and be transported on what feels like a magical underwater journey.

IMG-0748-Facetune-04-05-2018-14-45-00.jpg
IMG-0736.JPG

Our second favourite was in the Planet Jellies exhibit. There was this HUGE wall filled with what seemed like hundreds of jelly fish. As the wall changed colours, so did the jelly fish! It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen!

IMG-0783.JPG

We had such a blast at the Aquarium and I can't wait to go back with Zane the next time we are in Toronto. It's a place we could visit over and over again and always find something else to love.

My Apologies to My Friends Who Don't Have Children

I'm sorry I'm Late (7).png

Having a baby changes your life and also the relationships that you have with the people around you. It makes you sympathize and bond with your fellow moms over how it's possible to survive on so little sleep and it unfortunately, can also distance you from your friends who don't have children. I can't say that I blame my friends... I once upon a time didn't have a baby and found it really hard to relate to what my mom friends were going through. I would try to have a conversion with my bestie M. and every 10 seconds was interrupted by: L put that down, L stop jumping, L stop running in the house! Fast forward a few years and our conversations now go something like this:
-Hey M! How are y - Zane don't eat the dog food! - what was I saying?
-I'm good... tired, busy the usua - L put that down! Leave your sister alone! - what was I saying?
-You were telling me I think about your day yesterday? I don't really remem - Zane stop french kissing the dog! Omg M gotta go. Zane is playing in the toilet.

Mom life changes EVERYTHING. I've teamed up, once again, with my mom friends and we've come up with a list of apologies for our friends that don't have children! Feel free to add your own in the comments below:

I'm sorry I'm Late.png

1 - I'm sorry I was an hour late to your birthday party  - to be honest.. my son threw up all over as I was heading out the door and you're lucky that I showed up at all. You should in fact be buying me a gift. Have you ever tried to wake a baby up from a nap and then show up at a party smiling? Why is your party at 9am anyways? Don't you know this is NAP TIME.

I'm sorry I'm Late (1).png

2 - I'm sorry that every time we go out I'm always wearing black yoga pants - it's really because no other pants fit me and the black really camouflages all the food stains from my child throwing his dinner at me. Tonight we ate cheerios for dinner because i just couldn't deal.

3 - I'm sorry that my child bit you/hit you/threw something at you - I really am trying to teach him. Listen - if you think you can do better, take him for a day and try. Actually maybe a week. I could use some sleep. Please?

4 - I'm sorry I forgot your birthday/anniversary/first day of work etc. - I run on 4 hours of sleep a day and I can't even remember my own name most of the time, so just be thankful I remember who you are. You really are important to me and I promise one day I will get my shit together and start checking my reminders on my phone... if I can only find it... my son was playing with it somewhere. Speaking of which... were is my son?

I'm sorry I'm Late (4).png

5 - I'm sorry I had to cancel our plans last minute because the baby was sick - I promise this isn't an excuse. They put everything in their mouth and are sick every week. I would much rather be sitting and having a glass of wine instead of sucking out boogers from my baby's nose (for those who don't have kids - yes this is a thing... and yes you will have to do it. Have kids they said... it'll be great they said.)

I'm sorry I'm Late (5).png

6 - I'm sorry I left your party early - I know I said it was because the baby was going to have a melt down, but I was the one who was ready to snap and felt it would be frowned upon if I started crying in the middle of a crowd of strangers.

I'm sorry I'm Late (6).png

7 - I'm sorry I can never make it to dinner with my kid unless we eat at 5pm - Kids are assholes sometimes. Especially tired ones. If you want to have dinner at 7pm and want me to bring my son, that's fine. But know that there WILL be a melt down. And my son's screaming is comparable in volume and pitch to a beluga whale so EVERYONE will stare. We might even end up on YouTube when he starts catapulting the food across the restaurant. I'm down if you are... I've been through it all and have no shame anymore.

All in all, my life has changed... but I promise I'll find that balance again... or a really good babysitter that's always available. I love you and miss you and still treasure our friendship so please wait for me to find my way. :)
